The Chronos Aero Long Distance Cycling Shoe Gives You Wings
Great comfort, optimal power transmission and very low air resistance: the Chronos Aero is a shoe that literally brings you further and flawlessly supports all your efforts.
An Aerodynamic Design for a 10-Watt Gain
Aerodynamics are crucial, especially when you can’t draft on the other riders and have to overcome drag by yourself. With the Aero, we opted for a simple singular dial-lock to fasten the shoe. The lock is protected by a smooth lace cover, without texture or dimples, which opens with a zipper. Those choices are more about aerodynamics than merely aesthetics: Indeed, after studying the airstream flowing around cycling boots, we concluded that a smooth surface results in less air resistance than a textured surface. Moreover, to even further prevent turbulences, we placed the zipper on the side of the shoe instead of on top of it. As a result, due to the smooth finish, a gain of 10 watts to overcome aerodynamic drag can be observed, as proven during our series of wind tunnel tests.
Comfortable to Put in, Take off, and Wear, Even in the Rain
The shoe has a soft finish for extra comfort while wearing it, as well as for putting it on and taking it off. The gradual and smooth transition from the hard carbon shell to the softer upper parts is only made possible because the Chronos Aero shoe is made in one piece. This method is undoubtedly laborious and more expensive, but it provides a significantly stronger and comfortable shoe, without hard or sharp edges. The holes in the carbon shell were also designed with the athlete’s comfort in mind, enabling, in case of rain, the water to drain from the shoe. As for the upper part, it is made of microfiber leather, a light, very strong, sustainable and anti-bacterial material.
An Efficient Pedal Stroke Without Fastening Your Shoes
You can transfer power to your pedals as soon as your feet are in your shoes, even if they aren’t fastened properly. Quite often, in the hurry of a transition, shoes aren’t tightened efficiently, which results in a huge waste of power. Easily heat moldable, the carbon shell of the Cadomotus Aero wraps snuggly around your foot, and thus ensures an efficient pedal stroke, whether it is properly fastened or not. Once moulded, the Aero is an instant perfect fit for your foot, enabling you to optimize every single pedal stroke, which offers you a huge advantage as soon as high power transfers and accelerations are needed, when cycling uphill or in bends for instance.
A Stiff Carbon Shell Saving You Energy for the Run
The most important part of the shoe is the solid carbon shell-sole, which optimally supports and stabilizes your whole foot, including – and more specifically – your heel bone. With its unique shell-like shape, the carbon sole of the Aero wraps around your foot and toe box with edges of about ½ inch, as well as around your heel where it makes one with the counter of the shoe – in the same vein as one-piece speed skating boot designs. While cycling, this carefully designed supporting shell helps relieve unwanted tension in your calves by making you pedal more with your hips and thighs. Hense you save strategic muscles like your calves for the run off the bike, to get the upper hand when you need them the most. To sump up, it’s a shoe that makes you cycle and run faster.
The advantages in short:
- Aerodynamic design, gaining up to 10 Watts thanks to a smooth shoe surface and a lower body position
- Improved power transfer, even and especially with shoes still unfastened
- Energized legs for the run thanks to optimal support and stabilization of the foot while cycling
