Cadomotus Triathlon Cycling Shoes: How They Help Me Perform at My Best

For about 2 years now, I have been riding with the Cadomotus cycling shoes. First with the Chronos Aero and, since this summer, with the Worldcup 4E Triathlon shoe. In this blog, I'm taking you through my experiences with both shoes, and sharing my reflections on switching from one model to the other.

Chronos Aero: The Long-Distance Cycling Shoe

When I first put the Chronos Aero shoe on, I immediately noticed that it felt different from my other cycling shoes. The shoe is flexible and the zipper on top makes it very easy to put on. The fit is very snug around my foot, and it's as if the shoe was made just for me—comfortable, and stiff because of its carbon shell sole. I feel that all my power can be put to good use on the bike, that all the watts are converted into pure speed, unlike with other shoes. Sometimes, the plant of my feet or my calves used to feel sore after cycling, but now, it is a thing of the past. I noticed that after 180 km of cycling, I was less “sore” to start the marathon. So for me, the shoe is a win-win: both comfortable and fast.

Besides the fit and the shell sole, the other big advantage of those shoes for me is that, because of the stiff shell, it doesn’t matter if the zipper is not fully closed: The shoes remain comfortable and tight enough. After the swim, I am often pumped with adrenaline and need to start my catch-up ride during the bike ride. I sometimes forget to fully zipper up. With these shoes, I don't have to worry about it and I can start pedaling immediately! Of course, I always have to close the zipper later, but it runs so smoothly that it's never a problem.

Kyra Meulenberg is a Fund Manager for the ASR Mortgage Fund at Aegon Asset Management and a passionate triathlete. One of her proudest achievements was becoming the Ironman World Champion in the 25-29 age group in 2021. In 2023, she placed 5th at the Ironman World Championships and was the top female age grouper in one Ironman and two Ironman 70.3 races.

For 2024, her focus was on improving my swim to be ready for the PRO field in 2025. She is also aiming for another shot at becoming the Ironman World Champion in Nice. Her mission is to become the best triathlete she can be while inspiring others to pursue their dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem.

Another advantage is that by heat-molding those shoes, you can really customize them to fit like a glove! The shape of a shoe is a very personal thing, and everyone has their own preferences when it comes to cycling shoes. By heating them, you can reshape them just the way you need to get the perfect fit. Because this shoe is so easily adjustable, many problems can be fixed. For example, in the past, I have suffered from nerve entrapment and tingles on the top of my foot. With the Chronos Aero, these tingles have decreased more than I have ever experienced so far with any other cycling shoe.

Because the shoes are customizable and already naturally comfortable, I knew right away that I would have a lot of fun with these shoes. And so far, I certainly have!

The Switch to the Worldcup 4E Triathlon Shoe

Once I’d ridden with Cadomotus shoes, I didn't want to wear another brand. Still, the Chronos Aero had some minor downsides for me. I often race in hot conditions with high humidity. And I train indoors a lot. I noticed that the shoes are quite warm, which is perfect, of course, for cold and rainy days, but less suitable for the muggy summer days I’m used to when I race.

In addition, I wanted to see if there was a way to further reduce the tingling in my foot. Because the Worldcup shoe has a breathable design with a mesh structure, it is slightly less tight, even though the fit is almost identical to that of the Chronos Aero. This difference provided a lot more relief to my foot. I’ve found my perfect go-to shoe! The combination between the stiff carbon sole and a breathable upper is the optimal fit for me. During hot races, my feet don’t get as hot, and consequently swell less, and I no longer experience extra pressure while racing. I realize that I greatly benefit from this during the run, after the bike leg: Because my feet feel fresher, I also slip on my running shoes faster and I feel like I run a lot smoother on the first meters. Again a win-win, fast on the bike and, because of the comfort, faster during the run. For me, the Worldcup is also my go-to shoe for the long distance, especially in warm conditions. Finally, the shoe being light-colored and mainly white, it is less susceptible to heating up in the sun. All in all, this shoe provides the perfect combination of comfort and speed, basically everything I am looking for during a full distance Ironman.
